MDM 91
« Dark purple red with violet hue. Sweet fruit and mild spices in a rather restrained expression, almost elegant. On the palate clean and well structured with firm tannins, well balanced fruit and an almost crisp finish. »

AL 92
« Clean, sweet and ripe fruit on the nose without jaminess, fin spiciness on the palate and plenty of rich dark fruit – cherry, cassis, blackberry and freshly fround pepper, well balanced tannins add structure, very juicy and long finish, plenty of character, very well made. Moyenne 91,5. »

Cuvée Capelane
Domaine de L’Arnesque Châteauneuf du Pape / 2010

« Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape) A blend of 80% Grenache and even parts Syrah and Mourvedre that is aged for a year in very old foudre, the 2010 Domaine de L’Arnesque Châteauneuf-du-Pape Capelane is a concentrated and balanced 2010 that has fresh, slightly backward aromas of black raspberry, bing cherry, spice-cabinet, and licorice that are grounded by copious smoked earth and rocky, mineral qualities. This medium to full-bodied wine is impressive on the palate as well and showe beautiful purity, notable balance, and enough ripe tannin to warrant short term cellaring. It is and outstanding effort that should drink well for over a decade. (90+ pts.) »

« 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Capelane Bright purple. Youthfully primary aromas and flavors of red and dark berry skin, with spice and floral nuances adding complexity. Juicy palate-staining and refreshingly bitter, with strong finishing bite and good clarity. Here’s another wine that showcases the attributes of the 2010 vintage. 89-91 »

Cuvée Capelane
Domaine de L’Arnesque Châteauneuf du Pape / 2009

« Bright purple. A complex bouquet evokes dark berries, cherry-cola and spice cake, along with subtle minerality. Juicy, palate-staining blackberry and bitter cherry flavors marry density and vivacity, firmed by strong mineral spine. Fresh and focused on the persistent finish, which repeats the spicy notes. 90-92 »

Cuvée Capelane
Domaine de L’Arnesque Châteauneuf du Pape / 2009

« Run by the brother/sister pair of Marie and Julien Biscarrat since 2005 (the estate was formely known as Domaine du Calongues), this estate owns a large number of vineyards in Côtes du Rhône and Vin de Pays, but only 4-5 hectare in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines are made by Sébastien Pathier (Marie’s husband) and this ’09 represents a solid value worth tracking down. Website : www.arnesque.com

2009 Domaine de L’Arnesque Châteauneuf-du-Pape Capelane (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape) $ 30. An outstanding wine that possesses both a traditional an elegant profile, the 2009 Domaine de L’Arnesque Châteauneuf-du-Pape Capelane, 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre aged all in demi-muid for 12 months, exhibits a perfumed, spicy, and complex bouquet of freshly snipped flowers, garrigue, creamy licorice, and both raspherry and blackberry styled fruits. Soft and voluptuous in the mouth, with medium to full-bodied, rich texture, super balance, and long, fine-grained tannin, this delicious elegant Châteauneuf-du-Pape should continue to impress for 5-8 years, if not longer. « New domaine : Julien Biscarrat near Jonquières. Very light nose. Tarry liquorice notes with some pretty firm structure. Grown-up wine pretty concentrated but not exaggerated. 16/20 »
